Introduction

This guidebook serves as a comprehensive resource for connecting phones to the Communications Manager (CM). It includes detailed instructions for setting up phones on both Private CM and Shared Host systems. Additionally, it provides troubleshooting steps and further assistance avenues for resolving any issues encountered during the setup process.

 

Connecting Phones to Communications Manager

Private CM Setup

For clients with a Private CM setup, follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Determine the appropriate CM for the end client.
    • If on a shared host system (13000 or 13001), or a remote phone on a private CM system, then will need to use OpenVPN from the phone.
    • Otherwise phone doesn’t need any action.
  2. Provision the phone and determine the method of connection to CM.
    • If the phone being connected to a system that supports YMCS (v1.4.7+), provision phone via YMCS otherwise do manual configuration
  3. Configure OpenVPN from the phone, if necessary, based on the system's support for YMCS.
  4. Perform YMCS provisioning if applicable, or manual configuration if required.
  5. Set up extensions and login profiles as needed.
  6. Restart the phone to apply configurations.

Creating the Open Config files

Create OpenVPN certificate on CM using uppercase MAC address

  1. Login to the relevant CM
  2. Go to “VPN” then “Open VPN Peers”
  3. Enter the phone’s MAC address next to “New Client Name” (Upper Case)
  4. Click on “New Client”
  5. Download the relevant certificate file from the CM

 

If partner is supplying the phone, send canned response with link to the downloaded certificate

  1. Download the relevant certificate file from the CM 
  2. Create a download link using BitWarden
  3. Add the link to the email.

Otherwise set up phone in lab and do provisioning

Shared Host Setup

For clients utilizing a Shared Host system, follow these steps:

  1. Download the relevant VPN certificate(s) for the phone(s) using the provided link.
  2. Connect the phone to the network and collect its IP address.
  3. Configure the Auto Provision settings with the provided provisioning URL.
  4. Enable VPN and upload the VPN configuration file to the phone.
  5. Reboot the phone to establish a VPN connection with the server

 

Adding an OpenVPN Certificate to Yealink Phone

Add an OpenVPN Certificate to Yealink Phone (Private CM)

To add an OpenVPN certificate to a Yealink phone for a Private CM, follow these steps:

  1. Reset the phone to factory settings.
  2. Log in to the web interface using the provided credentials.
  3. Add the provisioning URL to the phone's settings.
    1. URL - http://172.30.253.1/startup_yealink.php?type=$PN&prov=$A 
  4. Upload the VPN configuration file to enable VPN connectivity.
  5. Reboot the phone to establish a VPN connection with the CM.

To add an OpenVPN certificate to a Yealink phone for a Shared Host system, adhere to the following steps:

  1. Log in to the relevant CM and go to Database 
  2. Download the VPN certificate(s) for the phone(s) from the provided link.
  3. Connect the phone to the network and obtain its IP address.
  4. Configure Auto Provision settings with the designated provisioning URL.
